Tradition Julen Hotels in Zermatt
Tradition Julen: hospitality, alpine tradition and a natural cycle in Zermatt
Genuine hospitality, alpine quality and lived sustainability – that is what Tradition Julen stands for. In the heart of Zermatt, the Julen family has, for generations, combined hospitality, gastronomy, agriculture and regional production into a unique cycle.
In our two 4-star superior hotels, the Wellness Hotel Alpenhof and the Tradition Julen Hotel, you can enjoy personal service, alpine atmosphere and relaxation at the highest level. There are also three restaurants, the Matterhorn cheesery with high-quality Tradition Julen products and wellness and spa – as well as a special connection to animals, agriculture and the nature around Zermatt.
The Julen family – hosts by tradition since 1910
Since 1910, the Julen family has stood for lived hospitality and a deep connection with Zermatt and the Matterhorn. Values that have grown over generations, such as warmth, quality, reliability and personal service, continue to shape our houses today.
At Tradition Julen, it is about more than a stay. It is about the feeling of being welcome, genuine encounters and an authentic piece of Zermatt.
For us, tradition means preserving what has proven itself, responsibly developing what is new, and sharing our alpine home with our guests.
A natural cycle – for our guests, our village and the future
What makes Tradition Julen special is the connection of different areas, which together form a natural regional cycle .
Agriculture and animal husbandry
Our connection with agriculture is an important part of the family history. Healthy soils, animal-friendly livestock farming and regional feed production form the basis of our cycle.
Part of our identity includes, among other things, Blacknose sheep, Eringer cows and dairy cows. The animals are not only part of our tradition, but also make agriculture and life in the mountains directly tangible for our guests.
From milk to a regional speciality
The milk from our cows forms the basis for high-quality products. In our own dairy, it is turned into cheese specialities, combining alpine craftsmanship and regional origin.
This means that what our agriculture produces becomes something our guests can enjoy in our restaurants and at home.
Tradition Julen products
Cheese, yoghurt, dried meat and other regional specialities stand for authentic flavour and the highest quality. Our Tradition Julen products bring alpine origin directly to the table – and make a piece of our family philosophy tangible beyond our hotels too.
Enjoyment in our restaurants
In our three restaurants , regional ingredients and alpine tradition are transformed into culinary enjoyment. Quality, origin and careful preparation are at the centre of everything.
Our guests experience Zermatt not only as a landscape, but also with all the senses – on the plate, in the glass and in the atmosphere of our houses.
Sustainability that begins in the cycle
For us, sustainability does not just mean saving resources. It begins with a connection to our homeland and a responsible approach to what nature gives us.
As part of Swisstainable , we are committed to a conscious and sustainable use of nature and resources.
An important part of our cycle is also the biogas plant: energy is generated from biological waste from the restaurants – for heat and electricity. The residue produced can also be returned to the fields as fertiliser.
This closes the cycle:
Agriculture → animal husbandry → milk and regional products → gastronomy and hospitality → residual materials → energy and fertiliser → back to agriculture.
Two hotels. Three restaurants. A very special home.

One thing always remains at the centre: the personal hospitality of the Julen family and the entire team.
