The Hotel Alpenhof is located directly by the Sunnegga-Rothorn-Bahn, skis over your shoulder and just a few steps to the lift – that's luxury on a ski holiday! The Tradition Julen Hotel is only a few bus or taxi minutes away from all three valley stations of the Zermatt mountain railways; anyone who wants to do something for their fitness can also easily walk from the hotel to the nearest valley station.

The Matterhorn ski paradise stretches from Rothorn (3'103 m above sea level) via Gornergrat (3'089 m above sea level) to Matterhorn glacier paradise (3'883 m above sea level) and Schwarzsee (2'583 m above sea level). From Matterhorn glacier paradise there is a link to Breuil-Cervinia / Valtournenche and the Val d'Aosta.

Join the Julens on a Wednesday at the sheep barn on the edge of the village of Zermatt. The excursion is the ideal opportunity for the Julen family to introduce you to these wonderful animals.

Yes, ski lockers are also available at the Sunnegga and Matterhorn Express stations. These are subject to a charge and are located both at the valley station and at the mountain station.

A taxi ride from the hotel or apartment to the gondola station costs approximately CHF 30.00. The exact price can vary depending on the taxi company and the journey.

No, a return or cancellation of the ski pass is not possible at reception. Refunds are handled directly by the mountain lifts and only if ski pass insurance for CHF 5.00 per day was booked at the time of purchase.

Yes. Both hotels have a ski room, where each room has its own locker for storing skis and ski boots. Guests of the Rio have their own ski room. Guests of the View & Spa Apartments have their own locker in the Hotel Julen.

With a Half Fare Travelcard or Swiss Travel Pass, in summer you receive 50% off many mountain railway tickets at Zermatt Bergbahnen . With the Peak Pass, the reduction is 25%.

For seniors, there is generally no additional senior discount at Zermatt Bergbahnen.

With a GA from SBB, you usually receive a 50 % discount at the Zermatt Bergbahnen in summer on many mountain railway tickets.

Yes. From the winter season 2026/27, all 1-day and multi-day ski passes from Zermatt Bergbahnen automatically include a ticket insurance.

The ticket insurance allows a pro rata refund of the ticket costs if the ski day cannot take place as planned due to illness, accident or extreme weather conditions.

Yes. With SnowAssist Plus, an optional additional insurance is available for CHF 5.00 per day, allowing you to extend your insurance cover.

It complements the ticket insurance already included in the ski pass and offers additional protection for:

  • Ski lessons
  • Rental costs
  • Accidents on the slopes
  • Liability in the Cervinia/Valtournenche ski area

The price of a day ski ticket depends on the season and whether you want to ski only in Zermatt or also in the international ski area.

Yes, of course! For children, we recommend our local ski school Zermatters. They offer various ski programmes specially for children.

The ski lockers are located as follows:

  • Hotel Julen & Hotel Alpenhof: in the basement.
  • Rio Apartments: on the ground floor.

Access to the ski lockers is via the room key card.

In principle, advance booking is possible, however we recommend this only if you know exactly which model, which size and which adjustment you need.

Yes, from March to the end of November the connection to Italy is generally possible without skis as well. The route leads over the Klein Matterhorn and on by cable cars to Cervinia.

In winter the connection is usually closed to pedestrians. Please note the current operating times and weather conditions of the mountain railways.

The connection to Italy leads via the Klein Matterhorn. From there, you can ski into the Italian ski area of Cervinia.
