Time for you. Since 1910.
Tradition Julen – a story of family, entrepreneurial spirit and genuine hospitality.
1910 – The beginning
The story of Tradition Julen began in 1910, when Andreas and Pauline Julen opened their first guesthouse in Zermatt.
After Andreas’ early death, their son Meinrad took responsibility for the family. Day after day, he stood for hours at the station and waited for travellers whom he could win over as guests for the guesthouse. With great dedication, he helped the family make ends meet.
It soon became clear: Meinrad had inherited his father’s business acumen.
1937 – Hotel Julen
At just 26 years old, Meinrad bought a plot of land and built Hotel Julen on it in 1937.
In 1981, the hotel was renovated under the management of Meinrad and his son Paul. In the same year, Paul and his wife Daniela took over the management. They expanded Tradition Julen with Restaurant Julen and Schäferstube.
With their children Paul-Marc, Sophia and Rebecca, not only did the family grow, but so did the next generation of hosts.
The tradition grows
When the third generation took over the running of the Julen hospitality businesses, the Après-Ski-Bar Papperla Pub also joined Tradition Julen.
In autumn 2014, Hotel Alpenhof was also added, having previously been run for 31 years by Paul-Marc’s uncle Hans Peter Julen and his wife Annelise.
Today – and tomorrow
Today Paul-Marc and Cindy Julen continue to run the businesses, thus carrying on the story of the Julen family.
And the next generation is already ready: Their children Kyra and Rajan are at the start of the fourth generation.
Four generations. Over 100 years of hospitality. A story that continues.
