Our Valais Blacknose sheep – true Zermatt locals with character

Bright eyes, a black face, white fleece and impressive, spiralled horns: our Valais Blacknose sheep are simply unique. At times they seem incredibly cute, at times impressively majestic – and most of the time both at once.

The «Schwarznasen» belong to Zermatt just like the Matterhorn. They feel especially at home outdoors in nature, where they roam freely across the alpine pastures and spend the summer in the midst of the Zermatt mountain world.

From the beginning of July to the beginning of September, our sheep spend the summer at the foot of the Matterhorn on the Gornergrat. Anyone wishing to visit them there can easily set off in search of the flock.

Thanks to GPS collars, the sheep’s locations can be tracked via an app. Follow the signal and discover the animals where they feel most at home – in the midst of the impressive mountain scenery around the Gornergrat.

A shepherd accompanies the flock throughout the entire summer season and will be happy to tell you more about the Valais Blacknose sheep, their special characteristics and life with the animals.
